A Lovingkindness Meditation for Monday Morning

This morning I Practiced Metta, or Lovingkindness Meditation. I sat for 20 minutes, first directing Metta to others, and then to myself. Traditional Metta practice can start to feel rote after a lot of practice. So I find it helpful to think of new phrases and prayers to send to others and to myself. It keeps it fresh, and it keeps it feeling genuine.

May you happy.

May you be healthy

May you feel safe and may you live without fear.

May you feel loved and lovable. Real love.

May you recognize unskillful action, however subtle. (And unskillful intention, even more difficult).

May you recognize the dead-ends and have the courage to turn around.

May you know wonder.

May you know that you are capable

Of choosing peace.

May you hear the teachings. (They’re coming from all directions).

May I be happy.

May I be healthy.

May I feel safe and may I live without fear.

May I feel loved and lovable. Real love.

May I recognize unskillful action, however subtle. (And unskillful intention, even more difficult).

May I recognize the dead-ends and have the courage to turn around.

May I know wonder.

May I know that I am capable

Of choosing peace.

May I hear the teachings.
